South African-born Mik Serfontaine lived a globetrotting existence until the Los Angeles music scene captured his interest in the late '80s. Like many musicians, he developed a love of vintage denim, which compelled him to enroll in design school to study pattern making. "I needed to learn the rudiments and techniques. To break the rules, you need to understand them first," says the designer. This spirit of bohemian artistry combined with precise, innovative design informs all Serfontaine's clothing.
