Mason by Michelle Mason

Born in Korea on Sep 30, 1971, Michelle Mason took a circuitous path to fashion design. A Fine Arts graduate of California State University Long Beach, she trained under Richard Tyler, where she got her first experience in the world of high fashion.

In 1994, she moved to London and became a fashion model for two years, learning fashion from the other side of the fence, in a manner of speaking.

But Michelle had other plans. Taking her new knowledge, she returned to Los Angeles in 1996 and started her own shoe collection under the label Michelle Mason. A year later, in 1997, she expanded the line to include ready-to-wear.

With the commercial success of her eponymous line, the designer decided to launch a diffusion line in July 2003 under the label Mason.

Creating silhouettes, which are more youthful and progressive, yet maintaining the tailored sharp fit and aesthetic of the main line, Mason, became an instant favorite in the youth market.

Using stretch cotton, fine stripe shirtings and various jersey fabrications, the collection utilizes contrasting details such as lace appliqués, giving it a romantic urban look.

Both the Michelle Mason and Mason line had been seen being worn by Angelina Jolie, China Chow, Cameron Diaz, Jewel, Lauryn Hill, Liv Tyler, Madonna, Nicole Kidman, Sofia Coppola, Winona Ryder and Rose McGowan
